REORGANIZATION OF THE WEAPONS LAWS WITHIN THE PENAL CODE (SB 1080) – EFFECTIVE JAN. 1, 2012
The Consolidated Booking System of Los Angeles County has been adapted to meet the requirements of the reorganization of weapons laws within the CA Penal Code, effective Jan. 1, 2012.

Internet, Instant Communications, Nixle, Social Media and the LASD

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is utilizing the latest technology to more effectively communicate by using resources that are free to the public.  This includes the Internet, instant communications such as Nixle and Alert LA County, and social media.  Included are several examples.
 

CBIS: Community-Based Information System
CBIS is the first in the nation, one-stop shop warehouse of information with 4 distinct features.   These features include ‘Find A Service’ section providing a quick locator for thousands of community resources for referrals.  A ‘Build A Map’ section providing Crime and Demographic Analysis, section 8, public housing, ABC-License businesses, ATF data, banks, schools, check cashing and much more that can be mapped for quick visual location.  The ‘Chart Data’ provides snapshots of community characteristics, view crime area and access to an open source Gang library with related video and documents.

162 U.S. law enforcement officers killed in 2010
A total of 162 federal, state and local law enforcement officers died in the line of duty during the past 12 months, according to preliminary data compiled by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF). This represents a dramatic increase over the 117 officer fatalities in 2009, which marked a 50-year low.

Too often, investigators and analysts overlook or under utilize this valuable resource. Social networking sites are virtual communities. As in any large community, criminal organizations, fraud, violent crime, and victimization exist. Sheriff's training academy plans to move out of South Whittier

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will be moving its academy/training program from its current location here to the Biscailuz Center in East Los Angeles. Los Angeles County Probation Department
The Probation Department serves all the municipal and superior courts of the County. Its services to the community include recommending sanctions to the court, enforcing court orders, operating correctional institutions, incarcerating delinquents, assisting victims and providing corrective assistance to individuals in conflict with the law.
Los Angeles County District Attorneys Office
The District Attorney of Los Angeles County is the lawyer for the people, a non-partisan official who is elected every four years. The District Attorney’s Office prosecutes felony crimes throughout Los Angeles County. Deputy district attorneys also prosecute misdemeanor crimes in unincorporated areas and in 78 of the 88 County cities.
 
Superior Court of California - Los Angeles

Los Angeles County Public Defenders Office
The Public Defender is a law office established and funded by the County of Los Angeles. The attorneys and other staff employed by the office render legal services to individuals who are accused of public offenses, and who cannot afford to retain the services of a private attorney.

Los Angeles County Office of the Alternate Public Defender
The Alternate Public Defender office provides legal representation for indigent persons who could not be represented by the Public Defender because of a conflict of interest.
