“I would like to thank Governor Brown for working with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the California State Sheriff’s Association (CSSA). It became clear in our conversations with the Governor and his staff over the last several weeks that the Governor’s intent was to rise above the political rhetoric and focus on the issues pertaining to public safety.

As I have said from the very beginning of this dialogue, public safety and the trust we have within the communities we serve is paramount. I am grateful for the conversations I have had with numerous immigrant advocacy groups in community forums large and small. The California State Assembly now has the opportunity to vote on Senate Bill 54 as the CSSA also continues to advocate for additional amendments to the bill.

We will await the final outcome of the Assembly vote and withhold further comment until then."
