Tip Leads to Recovery of Three Classic Cars - #LASD Trap Detectives
West TRAP detectives received a clue on where three stolen classic vehicles were being stored. Detectives prepared and served a search warrant at the Mojave residence and impounded a total of four vehicles. Detectives conducted inspections of all the vehicles and concluded three of the following vehicles had the vehicle identification numbers changed. Detectives ultimately identified the below vehicles to be stolen:
1. 1965 Buick Riviera: Stolen on October 26, 2002, LAPD DR # 02-0632188
2. 1984 Cadillac Coupe De Ville: Stolen on July 29, 2002, LAPD DR # 02-1025740
3. 1987 Buick Grand National: Stolen on July 7, 2002, LAPD DR # 02-1517811
Detectives also recovered a stolen Beretta 12 gauge shotgun. The suspect was booked at Kern County Sheriff’s Mojave jail for 29800 (a)(1) P.C., Ex-Felon in possession of a firearm. This case has been presented to the Mojave Deputy District Attorney’s Office for consideration and filing.
The Taskforce for Regional Autotheft Prevention (TRAP) was established in 1993 under the direction of the Countywide Criminal Justice Coordination Committee (CCJCC) with the Sheriff designated as the Regional Coordinator. The task force consists of regional investigative teams from various law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles County. TRAP’s mission is to reduce the incidents of auto theft countywide by coordinating a deterrence, investigation, and prosecutorial program with all criminal justice agencies, and private sector business leaders.
