Assistant Sheriff Richard Barrantes Awards Diplomas to Graduates of Explorer Class #97
The Graduation ceremony for Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Explorer Class #97 was held on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Whittier High School auditorium in the city of Whittier. Assistant Sheriff Barrantes awarded diplomas to the 169 young men and women who demonstrated the dedication to complete the extensive Law Enforcement Explorer Program. The Explorers will voluntarily participate in community affairs and activities that will benefit and strengthen the relationship between the agencies and communities they serve.
Along with graduates from the Sheriff’s Department, Explorers from the Norwalk Department of Public Safety; and the Baldwin Park, Bell Gardens, Burbank, Glendale, Huntington Park, Long Beach, Los Angeles School, Montebello, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, Signal Hill and West Covina Police Departments also received certificates.
This Explorer Class #97included recruits who attended the South Academy in Whittier, North Academy in Santa Clarita and Antelope Valley Academy in Lancaster. Three members of the class were named as Honor Recruits: Brandon Budwig, Marcel Lacy and Natasha Sanchez. Each Honor Recruit was presented with a plaque from Assistant Sheriff Barrantes.
Robert Ram Correctional Services Assistant (CSA), Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) and cancer survivor, delivered inspirational remarks to the graduates and their guests.
The Law Enforcement Explorer Program is open to all young men and women between the ages of 15 and 21. Interested individuals may contact their local police department or sheriff’s station for further information regarding law enforcement explorer programs.
