RECORDER'S OFFICE: records legal documents identifing ownership of real property; maintains files of birth, death and marriage records for Los Angeles County.
COUNTY CLERK: functions include: marriage license issuance, the performance of civil marriage ceremonies, fictitious business name filings and indexing, qualification and registration of notaries and miscellaneous statutory issuance of oaths and filings.

Los Angeles County Probation Department
The Probation Department serves all the municipal and superior courts of the County. Its services to the community include recommending sanctions to the court, enforcing court orders, operating correctional institutions, incarcerating delinquents, assisting victims and providing corrective assistance to individuals in conflict with the law
Los Angeles County District Attorney
The District Attorney of Los Angeles County is the lawyer for the people, a non-partisan official who is elected every four years. The District Attorney’s Office prosecutes felony crimes throughout Los Angeles County. Deputy district attorneys also prosecute misdemeanor crimes in unincorporated areas and in 78 of the 88 County cities.

The Public Defender is a law office established and funded by the County of Los Angeles. The attorneys and other staff employed by the office render legal services to individuals who are accused of public offenses, and who cannot afford to retain the services of a private attorney.
Alternate Public Defender for Los Angeles County
The Alternate Public Defender office provides legal representation for indigent persons who could not be represented by the Public Defender because of a conflict of interest.
